Chardonnay — 2016 LAST 30 CASES

Last year was our initial vintage, a small quantity exclusively for our Wine Club. We are delighted to have increased production this year so we can now offer this premimum wine to all our customers. Fruity nose with coconut, papaya and pineapple. This Chardonnay has been processed in a southern Burgundy "Macon" style, using oak barrels for part of the fermentation and part of the aging process.  The result is a light and delicate, uniquely elegant Chardonnany.   (139 cases made - yeah, we know, still not much) $32

Gibson Hollow White — 2015

Crisp white wine with bold peach and lemon peel aromas, fermented in “off-dry” style and bottled for freshness. Traminette-based blend providing depth and acidity.  Based on historical name of our farm’s location.
Pairings: great with picnic fare or afternoon sipping by itself. $24

Shenandoah — 2016 SOLD OUT (New vintage next April)

We are excited to release Shenandoah, a special new, limited edition DuCard wine. The label depicts White Oak Canyon and Falls, just around the corner from DuCard, in the style of 1930’s era posters that were commissioned for the western National Parks. We are pleased to have obtained the exclusive rights to use this iconic image from former park ranger and longtime enthusiast Doug Leen.

DuCard will donate a portion of the sales to the Shenandoah National Park Trust, and will provide wine to the Trust in support of its fundraising activities. Through a wide range of nonprofit programs and activities, the Trust helps ensure that Shenandoah National Park remains a crown jewel of the National Park Service, an economic driver for our region, and a national treasure for all to enjoy for generations to come. Visit www.snptrust.org to learn about the Trust’s work and why we are delighted to support them.

Shenandoah is a slightly sweet white wine consisting primarily of Traminette grapes from a partner grower in the Shenandoah Valley. Stainless steel fermented and aged on fine lees for 3 months, it delights with aromas of peach, ripe apricot and a background of lychee, with a rich mid palate and medium acidity. Although the 2016 growing season started out wet, we enjoyed favorable high temps and dry weather late in the year. This wine should be enjoyed chilled at approx. 45°f and will pair nicely with summer salads with balsamic vinaigrette or slightly spicy foods.

Shenandoah is also a terrific refresher on the DuCard patio, overlooking Shenandoah National Park, after a hike at White Oak Canyon ! (139 cases made) $30

This dry, French style Rosé shows beautiful notes of strawberry, cranberry and stone fruit. This Bordeaux blend exhibits a salmon color and is a refreshing delight for Summertime activities. Released early for Valentines Day each year, we suggest you restrain yourself from opening that second (or third) bottle for a few months when this wine really blossoms! Serve chilled. (204 cases made) Pairings: by itself at 5 o’clock …somewhere. $24

Cabernet Franc — 2015

Black cherry and blueberry on the nose, followed by sweet spices with hints of fennel and spearmint in the background. Chalky but soft tannins, plus minerality on the finish that expresses the red clay and ancient mountain granite soils of the DuCard vineyard site. Benefits from a brief decanting.
Pairings: strip steak, pork loin, beet salad, herbed cheeses. $28

Popham Run Red Blend — 2015  LAST 30 CASES

This Bordeaux blend makes a great ‘everyday’ red wine. It exhibits delicious aromas and flavors of black and red fruits and was aged for 10 months in both French and American oak. Named for the stream adjoining the vineyard, this wine will soften and improve with age. (236 cases made)
Pairings: pasta and red sauce, grilled kebobs, chicken dishes. $24

Triskele — 2013  SOLD OUT 2014 Release next year

New premium Bordeaux-style blend, made only in the finest vintages. Triskele is a motif used throughout history to connote a blend of three elements, like earth, water and fire. For us, it is an equal blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Aromas of blueberry and cherry, hints of violet and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with strong mid-palate of plum and blackberry. Long finish includes cocoa, nutmeg and mushroom, a puff of smoke, and lingering acidity. Decanting recommended to reveal full character and complexity. (110 cases made)
Pairings: beef bourguignon, pork loin, dark chicken, mushrooms. $42

Petit Verdot — 2015 LAST 30 CASES

The latest vintage in our growing tradition of outstanding DuCard PVs.  Bold with gorgeous purple color, rich mouthfeel and strong tannins that will mellow with age.  Dark fruits predominate - blueberry, blackberry and currant.  Only 110 cases made.
Pairings: lamb roast or a great steak. $36 FUN NOTE: A library vintage of our Petit Verdot was featured at the recent Virginia Wine Summit, where moderator and sommelier Jen Knowles declared it her personal favorite among the eight PV wines tasted.

Version 1: Cabernet Sauvignon — 2012 SOLD OUT

This is our first effort at Cabernet Sauvignon - as a 'trial' using grapes from Carter Mountain in Charlottesville - to decide if we should plant this iconic but difficult to grow varietal. We've concluded 'yes' and Version 2 will be coming from our new estate vine blocks in 2018.
Pairings: steak for sure. $28

Merlot — 2014 SOLD OUT. New vintage coming summer 2018

This wine shows aromas of red berries, sweet spices, leather, and mocha, and has a huge structure of acid and tannins with a very dry finish. It is still very firm and focused, and will soften well over time. This wine was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels.
Pairings: sharp cheeses, grilled meats or some creative ideas like schnitzel or cassoulet. $25

C'est Trop — 2014

It's too much. Literally. This port-style red dessert wine is just the ticket for after dinner sipping, perhaps with cigar in hand on the back deck, overlooking your vineyard or country manor.  Norton fortified with brandy.  Very limited production.  500 ML $36

Virginia Native Norton — 2015 - SOLD OUT - next vintage release summer 2018
